Fashion designer Gabriela Hearst collaborated with contemporary artist Adam Pendleton on a limited edition Nina handbag, one of Hearst’s most popular models. To accompany each handbag, Hearst commissioned the design of a card-style insert with information about the edition.

Each Nina bag incorporates a standard credit card-sized pocket where the wearer can store credit cards, business cards, and other small printed matter.

With the dimensions of a standard credit card, the design of this bag insert takes advantage of
the pocket’s shape. Upon unboxing and opening of the bag, each buyer meets this special insert sitting comfortably inside.

Inspired by Gabriela Hearst’s identity as a luxury brand committed to sustainability, I chose to 3D print this bag insert out of polylactic acid (PLA), a common yet sustainable 3D printer filament made from sugar canes. Per the decision of Adam Pendleton, I used black filament.

I printed a total of 30 of these bag inserts for the edition of 25 Nina bags. Each card was signed in silver ink by the artist.
